Why people treat short people like a joke
"Okay, everyone likes these kinds of Chinese dramas in which hero is extremely tall and heroin is way too shorter than him.Hero pulls, grabs her forcefully which is suppose to be romantic scene . But personally, I don't like such senerios. A girl is a separate individual, and dragging her around and treating her like an object doesn't sit well with me.
I remember back in college, we had a group of girls. Two were five feet six or seven inches tall, then we had two who were five feet four inches, one was five feet, and one was around four feet ten or eleven inches. When we were all together, we often tried to be nice to the shortest one by making way for her, carrying her bag, or sometimes accidentally bumping her head with our elbows while talking, and then feeling extremely sorry. We tried our best to take care of her or make her feel a little special. And believe me, none of us ever made fun of her or made her feel inferior.
One day, she started crying. She said, 'I may be short in height, but I am just like you all. Please don't treat me like a child.' We were all so embarrassed. It happened unintentionally, and I've noticed that when someone is shorter than us, we tend to see them as smaller. Some people act more childishly, while others are more self-respecting. And believe me, the self-respecting ones are the loveliest people."
